Congratulations on your pregnancy! A journey through Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) like IVF is unique, and so is the way your due date is calculated. Unlike pregnancies from natural conception where the ovulation date is estimated, your IVF timeline is known with medical precision. This calculator is specifically designed to use the exact dates from your treatment to provide the most accurate Estimated Due Date (EDD) possible.
This tool helps you pinpoint your special date, allowing you and your care team to accurately track your baby's growth from the very beginning.
How to Use the IVF Due Date Calculator
Because your pregnancy timeline isn't based on your last menstrual period (LMP), this calculator uses the precise milestones of your treatment. Please select your treatment type and enter the corresponding date:
- Using Embryo Transfer Date: This is the most common method. Select the age of your embryo at the time of transfer (e.g., a Day 3 embryo or a Day 5 blastocyst) and then enter the exact date of the transfer procedure.
- Using Egg Retrieval or IUI Date: For fresh IVF cycles, the day of your egg retrieval is equivalent to the day of ovulation. Similarly, the date of an Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is used as the date of conception. Enter this date to calculate your EDD.
Why IVF Due Dates Are More Precise
A standard due date calculation has to make an assumption about when ovulation occurred. In an IVF cycle, there is no guesswork. The date of egg retrieval marks the exact moment of 'ovulation,' and the age of the embryo is known to the hour. This removes the main variables that make LMP-based due dates less reliable. Your IVF due date is a highly accurate calculation that will be the foundation for your entire pregnancy timeline and will rarely need to be adjusted.
Your Pregnancy Timeline Based on Your IVF Due Date
Once you have your EDD, you can map out the key milestones of your pregnancy. A full-term pregnancy is 40 weeks (280 days) of gestational age. Here’s a general guide:
- First Trimester Ends: Around 13 weeks and 6 days.
- Second Trimester Begins: At 14 weeks and 0 days.
- Anatomy Scan Ultrasound: Typically scheduled between 18 and 22 weeks.
- Third Trimester Begins: At 28 weeks and 0 days.
- Full-Term: Your pregnancy is considered full-term from 37 weeks onwards.
Important Medical Notes
This calculator provides the most accurate due date possible based on your treatment data. This is the date your fertility clinic will give you and the one your obstetrician will use to manage your pregnancy. While it is highly accurate, remember that only about 5% of babies are born on their exact due date. It is a vital milestone for medical monitoring, not a guaranteed delivery date.
